“Those who abide in me and I in them bear much fruit …”

John 15:5

1. Vision & Spiritual Direction

Abiding through the Year @ CCBC by Jorge de Ramos

“Those who abide in me and I in them bear much fruit” John 15:5 NRSV

We focused on the theme ABIDE through the 65th year.  We took it from the promise of Jesus in the gospel of John, that “those who abide in me and I in them will bear much fruit.”  Fruitfulness is founded in remaining in the presence of Christ in our life as a church.  This is the essence of being a temple of God!  The New Testament temple is not made of bricks, mortar, and stones; it is made of flesh and blood.  It is built with people whose hearts are set to honor the LORD.

The 65th year of CCBC was a period revisiting and renewing this relationship.  As we have studied the message of the book of Haggai together, we were challenged, using the words of Pastor Philip Tarroja to “build the temple and be the temple.”

We’ve been waiting for the right time to start to build. But a powerful thunderstorm destroyed CCBC’s roof, causing massive flooding and damaged furniture and equipment.  This became a call for us to begin building.  As the leadership sought the heart of God for starting the building project, the book of Haggai provided the answer: “that I (the LORD) may take pleasure in it and be honored…”  The motive is for the Lord’s pleasure and honor!  The other reasons take a second string.

Abiding gave a new motivation for taking the gospel to the people around us.  We saw a well-attended Witnessing as a Way of Life training semester moved by the thought of abiding in Christ.  We saw bold attempts to start life groups and do ministry to others with the inspiration that Christ abides among those who serve in His name.

Trials and difficulties were inevitable to the lives of believers.  Abiding in Christ was the key for many of us to be able to stand firm through those times even through seasons of pain, grief, and even death.

We also recovered the habit of reading the Bible daily through our 40-day in the Bible campaign.  Out of this discipline, being guided by God’s Word, some Life Groups were led to take action for ministry.  Members stepped up to engage in leading others in the faith.  Some worked together on an outreach project, i.e. helping in CCBC’s outreaches, sharing love to the abandoned senior citizens, and serving beyond their comfort zone in the ministry.  You will find some of these stories in the other articles in this newsletter.

The 66th year of CCBC will be a season of constructing the building.  Some of the old columns, beams and floors may be utilized according to the designers.  Some will be retrofitted.  Other supporting structures will be added so a modern, safe, functional, and future-proof building could be built around it.

It will be the same with the church.  We see children and young people coming to Christ – the new CCBCers.  They will be built on whatever the older generation has or will leave behind.  Surely the foundations will remain.  Those columns and structure of the faith of CCBC that causes us to be the church that makes disciples of Christ “…in the heart of the nation and with the nations at heart.”

CAPITOL CITY BAPTIST CHURCH 2025-2026 Theme

EχPAND

“Enlarge the place of your tent,

    stretch your tent curtains wide,

    do not hold back;

lengthen your cords,

strengthen your stakes.” – Isaiah 54:2

CCBC is entering into a season of rebuilding the facilities after years of uncertain hiatus on the project.  Impelled and inspired by the challenge of the book of Haggai, the church picked up the challenge of rebuilding by faith, trusting in God’s provision and power to complete the project.

“(B)uild my house, so that I may take pleasure in it and be honored,” (Haggai 1:7).

It is purely for God’s honor that the temple must be rebuilt even at a time when the Israelites are reeling and recovering from the devastation brought about by the exile; even at a period where resources were scarce compared to the wealth used in building the temple in Solomon’s era.

The CCBC Haggai Mandate Building Project is also a legacy for the generations to come.  By the end of 2027, we hope to see the completion of this project – a temple where the Lord is constantly honored and revered by the succeeding generations of CCBCers, a place that truly reflects the ethos of the church community, a space for those finding healing and restoration, and a spot that reverbs the heartbeat for the nations, that is why CCBC needs to strengthen her foundations anticipating the challenges to the gospel of the succeeding generation of CCBCers.

How does this happen, aside from doing construction?

Let the theme for 2025-2026, inspire CCBCers to:

  • Strengthen stakes. Grow in knowing, loving, and serving the LORD that leads to transformed lives especially through difficult times (Personal growth).  This year, we recovered the discipline of reading the Bible daily. I pray that it translates into a heart that longs and seeks intimacy with the Savior Christ.  May this be seen in a mindful but passionate service to the LORD.  We also aim to see the Gen Z’s of CCBCers beginning to own their faith and the Gen ’s growing in the foundations of the faith.

  • Lengthen cords.  Discover and experience the power of togetherness in the pursuit of God’s assignments for the church.  The whole is greater than the sum of its parts!  We will instill the discovery of each other’s strengths in the Lord and serve together in unity and love.

  • Stretch tent curtains wide.  Accomplish greater things (assignments) through the enabling and empowering of the Holy Spirit of the church. We will continue to tap into the power of the church – that is the fullness of the Spirit to increase capacity to serve as witness for Christ in the metro and beyond.

Let us take this theme down to you as a follower of Christ.  Consider these questions in a prayerful manner.

  • How do you see yourself growing in knowing, loving, and serving the LORD?  What transformation would you like to see happen in your life, and in your significant relationships? How can life’s trials bring positive transformation to you?

  •  How much of your spiritual gifts have you discovered?  Are you engaged in using these gifts for the building of the body of Christ?  How do you see yourself stepping up towards walking and working with other CCBCers for the cause of the gospel of Christ.

  • How much are you willing to “step out into the deep” for the LORD? Are you a mere consumer of whatever ministry or service the church gives you or are you engaged in multiplying the church’s capacity to serve?  What can you do to move up from the state where you are right now?

Keep in mind that your personal growth will bring significant expansion for CCBC.

Heeding the Call to Make Disciples by Jot Velasquez

Last April, twelve committed men and women completed the School of Shepherds—a key training initiative designed to equip leaders for disciplemaking. With hearts aligned to Matthew 28, they embraced both biblical principles and practical tools to shepherd others wherever God has placed them. Among them is Pham Pasagui, who now leads a small group of young moms, fostering a space for growth, encouragement, and spiritual transformation.

The School of Shepherds reflects our vision: every CCBCer a disciplemaker, every leader a shepherd. Pray that each graduate will be empowered to launch their own group and help expand God’s kingdom.

“Growing but not multiplying” has been my greatest guilt as a Christian. The idea of being a shepherd often feels overwhelming. I don’t feel smart or knowledgeable enough to explain Scripture, especially when I struggle to understand it myself. My imperfections and personality don’t seem to fit the role.

When I think about becoming a shepherd, I focus on the responsibility. But in truth, it’s a privilege.

“Who am I to lead Your people?” I often ask. The problem is, I keep looking at myself—my fears, my insecurities—instead of looking to Him.

Being a follower feels easier. But leading others closer to God carries greater purpose. As I grow in faith, I see the value of having a life group—a community of people hungry for God’s Word, desiring to experience His love and presence daily.

Without that, I wouldn’t see life the way He wants me to. I may not be the shepherd I imagined, but I know the true Shepherd, Jesus Christ, will guide me and my brothers and sisters to live lives that please Him.

All it takes is a willing heart and a simple, humble response: “Yes.”
– Pham Pasagui, shepherd. Young Moms life group

2. Mission and Outreach Highlights

Updates on Church Planting Outreach 2025 by Dr. Rev. Jorge de Ramos

CCBC Balogo Outreach – The church was able to start renovating the church facilities.  Contributions from CCBCers amounted to Php135,000.  This helped the outreach church to make the building functional for their sunday worship services.  Just recently, a group of riders where Pastor Bot Abelado is a member, visited the church and donated a significant amount to help complete the project.

The CCBC churches in Marinduque are demonstrating growth by the new generation of young leaders that are actively serving among them.  These youth form the leadership and ministry team that ran the Daily Vacation Bible School held in CCBC Kansurok, CCBC Bonliw, CCBC Praiseland, and CCBC Balogo.

A thriving children’s ministry is also happening at CCBC outreach church in Pasong Tamo

It is also noteworthy that Lemery Baptist Church and CCBC San Jose in Batangas have a growing active youth population.

Lemery Baptist Church is working out an application for membership to CBAP on behalfa of their outreaches in Calaca and Agoncillo towns in Batangas respectively.

The outreach church in Bacacay, Albay reported baptisms of 12 young people to their congregation.  They also acquired a vehicle for use in the ministry.

Negotiations are still being done to acquire a property for CCBC Outreach church in Morong Rizal.

Susan Bagcus Missions Faith Promise Fund by Dr. Rev. Jorge de Ramos

In October 2024, we renamed the Missions Faith Promise Fund in the memory of our dear sister, Susan Bagcus.  Her life story represents the heart of CCBC for missions.  She devoted the strength of her youth in serving the persecuted churches and the least reached peoples in Indochina and South Asia up until she passed away in 2020.  She has denied herself of many privileges that more people will gain by knowing Christ in their lifetime.

We placed her name to the missions fund so that the future generations of CCBCers will not forget the essence of the missions ethos of the church – that it is a faith enterprise, a fruit of love and devotion to Christ.

ALS CCBC Ministry: Touching Hearts, Transforming Lives by Gerry Batac

The ALS CCBC Ministry is a Christ-centered outreach of Capital City Baptist Church that offers a second chance at education for out-of-school youth and adults. Since 2013, the ministry has reached those who were unable to complete elementary or junior high school, guiding them through a 10-month modular program that teaches six core learning strands of the Department of Education’s Alternative Learning System: communication skills, scientific literacy, math and problem-solving, life and career skills, self and society, and digital citizenship. At the end of the program, learners take the DepEd Accreditation and Equivalency (A&E) Test, which allows them to pursue senior high school or vocational and professional careers.

To date, ALS CCBC has celebrated 93 graduates—some now working as teachers, OFWs, nurses, entrepreneurs, and more. In the 2025–2026 cycle, 5 out of 7 students passed the A&E Test and are now taking the next step toward a brighter future. Through this ministry, learners are not only educated, but also introduced to the love of Christ. Praise God for changing lives and making dreams possible through ALS CCBC. All for Jesus!

Embracing the Gift of Communication: Our Church’s Deaf Ministry by May Andrada

Our church celebrates inclusivity, and at the heart of this mission is our Deaf Ministry—a growing community where deaf and hard-of-hearing members can fully experience God’s love and Word.

Through the use of Filipino Sign Language (FSL), we offer monthly interpreted services, thanks to our dedicated volunteers: Ms. Rhona Muñoz, Ms. Gladys Albano, and Dr. Joy Lim. Their work ensures full participation in sermons, worship, and church events.

More than just accessibility, the Deaf Ministry provides a space for connection and belonging. We hold regular Bible studies, Sunday School, and worship gatherings tailored to our deaf congregants. These events deepen faith, build friendships, and strengthen our church family.

Our Saturday Dawn Prayer meetings are another powerful space where hearing and deaf members pray side by side, fostering unity and fellowship. Small groups, mentoring, and prayer partnerships offer further emotional and spiritual support.

We praise God for the opportunity to attend the 1st World Deaf Christian Conference in Brazil—an inspiring milestone in our journey.

Let us continue to grow together in love, learning, and service. May our church be a place where everyone feels seen, heard, and value

Kaagapay: A Journey of Healing, Discipleship, and Hope by Ptr. Bot Abelado

As stated in our Vision Canvas, Capitol City Baptist Church (CCBC) is called to be a safe place for healing and restoration. One of the ways we live this out is through our ministry to over 300 parolees and probationers in Quezon City. Every second Thursday of the month, they gather at CCBC for their regular reporting, which includes therapeutic community sessions and spiritual formation. During these gatherings, we share the Gospel, preach the Word, and guide them through small group discipleship. In addition, we conduct an online Bible study every last Thursday of the month, reaching more than 100 participants.

This ministry is made possible through the faithful service of CCBC volunteers and ministers who disciple this often-overlooked and marginalized community with compassion and consistency.

Discipling and integrating them into the life of the church presents ongoing challenges, but we believe God is at work in every life touched. May we continue to be a church that brings healing, restoration, and hope—one life, one family at a time.

Reaching Out and Touching Hearts Ministry: Bringing Christ to Every Home by Ptr. J-Cip Lim

The Reaching Out and Touching Hearts Ministry continues to flourish, touching lives and making a meaningful impact in our community. Through weekly visitations, our faithful and committed team members actively spread the love and grace of God to families—especially those who are just beginning their journey with Jesus as Lord and Savior.

Two to three times a week, our ministry teams go out from CCBC to different homes. Their mission is simple but powerful: to listen, to connect, and to pray. These visits are more than just schedules—they are sacred moments of hearing people’s stories, feeling their burdens, and pointing them to Christ’s hope and peace.

Every encounter is a reminder that God meets us not only inside church walls, but right where we are—in our homes, our struggles, and our everyday lives.

As this ministry grows, we long to see more CCBCErs join in this beautiful work of reaching the lost and encouraging new believers. Truly, when we step out in faith and compassion, we become vessels of God’s love to the world.

Let’s keep reaching out—and touching hearts—for His glory.

3. Discipleship & Spiritual Growth

40 Days in the Word – by Jot Velasquez

On March 2, 2025, we officially launched the 40 Days in the Word campaign—an exciting church-wide journey that brought life-changing revival to our community. From young adults to seniors, and across various ministry teams, LIFE Groups of all ages joined in with great enthusiasm and unity. What made this campaign unique was its focus not just on reading the Bible, but on truly engaging with it—learning how to study, meditate on, and live out God’s Word every day.

Over six weeks, participants committed to daily Scripture reading, watched teaching videos from trusted Bible teachers, and practiced different devotional methods during small group sessions. Ministry teams also used the material to guide their devotionals and discussions. Many testified of personal breakthroughs, deeper hunger for God, and a renewed commitment to follow His Word.

This campaign not only strengthened individual faith but also deepened community life across our church. People who had never consistently read the Bible are now equipped with practical tools to study it with joy and understanding. As a result, hearts were revived, relationships were restored, and a fresh passion for God’s truth was ignited. 40 Days in the Word reminded us that transformation truly begins when we engage with Scripture deeply and daily.

Set Free Retreat Brings Healing and Freedom by Jot Velasquez

This year, CCBC held two life-changing Set Free Retreats—one in February and another in June. These retreats provided sacred spaces for participants to experience spiritual healing, release from past wounds, and deeper intimacy with God. Rooted in biblical truth and prayer, each retreat created an atmosphere of safety where attendees could confront lies, confess sins, break strongholds, and receive God’s grace and freedom.

In February, ten individuals courageously took the step to seek inner healing, many of them encountering God’s love in a deep personal way. By June, another group joined, each with a unique story but a shared hunger for transformation. Through Spirit-led sessions, personal reflection, and ministry times, hearts were softened and lives were renewed.

The Set Free Retreat is more than a weekend event—it’s part of our church’s discipleship journey, helping believers walk in freedom and wholeness so they can follow Jesus wholeheartedly. Many who joined testified to a fresh sense of peace and purpose after the retreat.

We praise God for His work in these lives and look forward to more retreats ahead. Let us continue to pray for lasting fruit and ongoing healing for each participant.

More Than Music: A Heart-Aligned Worship Ministry by Apple Casupanan

The Worship Ministry remained intentional in caring for its members—not just by honing their talents, but by prioritizing their spiritual well-being. We recognized that ministry must flow from a deep relationship with God, not just performance. We continued to integrate Word studies and small group discussions into rehearsals, creating moments to reflect and assess our spiritual health as individuals and as a team.

We also launched “Worship University,” a three-weekend training designed to develop both skill and spirit. It offered space for growth in excellence and in understanding the true heart of worship. The sessions helped redirect our focus, realign our hearts, and remind us of our God-given purpose.

I just wanted to express my heartfelt gratitude for the CCBC Worship University training. I was inspired to deepen my walk with God and enhance my worship skills. I’m grateful for the investment in our spiritual growth and look forward to applying the lessons learned. – Diane Laluan

Worship U connected me with fellow musicians who share the same joys and challenges. The sessions were enriching not only in musical knowledge but also spiritually. The motive of your heart will dictate the notes you play. – Angel Tarroja

Prayer Ministry: A Safe Space of Intercession and Growth by Ptr. J-Cip Lim

The Prayer Ministry continues to be a safe and sacred space where CCBCers can pour out their hearts, knowing they are heard—not just by others, but by God Himself. It has become a place where burdens are shared, hope is restored, and the power of prayer is deeply felt through the presence of a community journeying together.

While weekly online gatherings, Midweek Encounter with God (MEG) still have room to grow in attendance with eight to ten gadgets representing an average of 8 to 12 participants, we thank God for the faithful few who consistently intercede for the church, its ministries, and those in need. Their quiet yet powerful service uplifts the entire body.

We are also grateful for the DEAF community, who actively participate and minister through heartfelt prayers during our weekly Saturday Dawn Prayer (SDP). Their presence plus the hearing participants representing around 30 to 40 in attendance every week reflects the unifying and healing power of shared prayer.

Aside from these two regular Prayer activities, we have the CCBC Family Prayer Group Chat where prayer requests are shared and many intercede as well.

Our hope is that more CCBCers will embrace the value of praying together—recognizing how corporate prayer not only strengthens personal faith but also builds a spiritually strong church.

As Sis. Arwine Zapanta shares:

“The impact that it makes on my spiritual life is learning something more about God. Not only do you pray, but it comes with devotion and fellowship—with praises, thanksgivings, and sometimes even testimonies.”

Truly, a praying church is a powerful church.

Witnessing as a Way of Life: Equipping Believers, Transforming Lives by Ptr. J-Cip Lim

From February to April 2025, sixteen believers embarked to join the 5th Batch of a life-changing journey through the Witnessing as a Way of Life training—a 10-session program designed to equip Christians to boldly share their faith. This season’s batch included teenagers, young adults, and seniors, each overcoming personal challenges such as busy schedules, school, ministry duties, and memory struggles.

Yet, their faith and obedience carried them through. Week after week, participants learned biblical foundations and immediately applied them—sharing the gospel in homes, campuses, and communities.

What began as training became a mission lived out.

More than skills, the program built friendships across generations, creating a supportive environment that encouraged growth and confidence. It became clear that witnessing is not limited to the gifted, but for anyone willing to say “yes” to the call.

“I thought I wouldn’t be able to memorize the verses, but the more I obeyed, the more the Word stayed in my heart. God truly equips those He calls.” – Gino Arizala, WWL graduate

The journey was fueled by prayer and loving support. And with one trainee choosing to be baptized, this batch proves that witnessing isn’t just a task—it’s now a way of life.

Now these new graduates join the Team Bilog, a regular witnessing blitz, held every Wednesday in Quezon Memorial Circle to share the Gospel to people in the area. They plan to do visitations, and other commando evangelism make witnessing as a way of life.

4. Raising the Next Generation

CCBC Kids: Treasure the Kids by Sarah Esteban

Kids are gifts from the Lord! CCBC treasures them all.

Kids ministry leaders have been trained in our monthly equipping, and new volunteers have finished the Teaching & Discipling Children workshop.

Sunday school classes continue to run consistently, serving children ages 4 to 12. These classes take place alongside our worship services and include Bible stories, singing, games, discussions, worksheets, crafts, prayer, and snack time. Last February, we also launched the “Kids Can Help” coin bank initiative, giving children the opportunity to participate in the Haggai Mandate Building Project through their giving.

Community ministry in AWANA Brgy. Bungad and Campus ministries in JASMS Jose Abad Santos Memorial School, Bungad Elem. School, Sto, Cristo Elem. School, Kalantiaw Elem. Schools for SY2024-25 have culminated, and Values education has been an integral part of their learning.

DVBS Daily Vacation Bible School’s “True North” has been a wonderful experience with our intergenerational students & amazing volunteers from Isabela, San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan; Lemery, Batangas & more. Soon after this, our outreaches and daughter churches did their own version of True North DVBS in San Luis Batangas, Lemery Batangas, Balogo Marinduque, Kansurok Marinduque, Buenavista, Marinduque, Pasong Tamo QC, Arayat Pampanga; Bacacay Bicol; Polilio Island & Sariaya Quezon, plus Ilocos. Indeed, Jesus is our True North!

Building Changemakers: A Mid-Year Look at God’s Faithfulness in Forward Youth by Mark Cardenas

The first half of 2025 was all about doing the slow, consistent, and faithful work through our regular weekly, monthly, and annual programs while challenging ourselves with new and major ones. These, all in the pursuit of building changemakers among our young people.

AFTER SERVICE HANGOUTS

We saw an average participation of 30-40 young people learning together about God and each other weekly through topics like how to love like Jesus, digital hygiene, rest, the gift of community, and coping with changes. It’s always a joy to see our community be a safe space for each other to wrestle with the big questions of life and faith, often with laughter or tears.

DVBS YOUTH CLASS

We saw 34 high schoolers hearing and learning more about the gospel and how they can trust Jesus through a wild world. This week-long ministry happened because of a team of 8 teachers (2 young adults and 6 student leaders) and 6 assistants and volunteers working, serving, and supporting each other to point the youth to Jesus.

CHOSEN CONFORM CAMP

For the first time in 7 years, we conducted a youth camp. This year, it was all about deepening our youth’s understanding, appreciation, and embracing of the gospel. We believe that the gospel ought to take supremacy in their lives, defining their identities, relationships, and purpose. We saw 54 participants, 27 of whom are the camp staff consisting of shepherds, ministry team, and volunteers. This was also a camp fully funded by ministry supporters who believed in our vision of seeing young leaders making change in every campus and community and decided to support it with their generosity.

We have been blessed immensely in seeing God work in small and big ways this first half of the year and we are ecstatic how else God will show himself faithful and mighty to build changemakers in the next generation. To the Coaches, Shepherds, Ministry Team, volunteers, and supporters, thank you for partnering with us. Let’s continue pressing on as a village that raises up a godly, chosen generation.

In the Gap, We Grow: God’s Faithfulness in YAM Reset – by Darel Najos

We’re grateful to share how God has been moving in the Young Adults Ministry (YAM), especially through our monthly fellowship, YAM Reset.

Reset started with a simple goal which is to create a safe space where young adults can pause, connect, and reflect on who God is and how His character speaks to our everyday lives. From just 10 attendees, we now welcome over 25 every month. It hasn’t been easy, but God is faithful.

At YAM Reset, we listen to each other’s stories—our struggles, victories, and everything in between—and then reflect on what the Bible says. We hold this perspective: “There’s a gap between the biblical standard and our real-life experiences—but it’s in that gap where we learn to walk with God.”

Here’s what some of us had to say:

“Reset is a space to pause and know God again. I always learn something new—especially when I get to share.”

“It’s a beautiful thing to see young adults gather regularly to grow in faith and community.”

“Being part of Reset reminds me to trust in God—our Provider, our Wisdom, our Sovereign King.”

“Imagine, before we were just 10. Now, we’re averaging 25 attendees. God is really at work.”

We’re excited for what’s ahead. We know the journey isn’t perfect, but God is with us, growing us one step at a time. If you’re looking for a place to grow, be heard, and know God deeper—Reset is here for you.

5. Facilities & Stewardship

Building God’s Legacy: The Haggai Mandate Project by Ptr. J-Cip Lim

Capitol City Baptist Church (CCBC) is embarking on the Haggai Mandate Building Project, a faith-driven initiative inspired by the book of Haggai. This facilities development program aims to rebuild and enhance the church’s property along West Avenue, Quezon City, turning it into a more vibrant and functional center for worship, discipleship, and community life.

The project will unfold in three phases: Phase 1 will expand the Main Sanctuary; Phase 2 will construct new administrative offices and function rooms; and Phase 3 will develop a new parking level and commercial space to support long-term sustainability. With an estimated cost of PHP 100 million, the project will be funded through donations, church funds, and ongoing fundraising efforts.

As part of the preparation, CCBC will transfer to a temporary worship tent by July 2025, where Sunday services and ministries will continue while construction begins. Members will be kept informed through weekly updates, social media, and email announcements. The Haggai Mandate is more than a construction plan—it is a shared journey of faith. Set for completion by 2027, each prayer, gift, and act of service is a step toward building God’s legacy and creating a spiritual home for generations to come.
