The Cost of Discipleship and a Tray of Eggs

Jot felt the gentle nudging of the Holy Spirit more than two decades ago, to step into the calling of discipleship—but she often pushed it aside. Her husband, Ptr. Randolph, would constantly bring his disciples into their home. And though the heart was willing, the cost felt overwhelming.

She remembered those long days of cooking from their carefully planned weekly food supply, intended for their three growing sons. Each time the youth would come, it meant stretching what little they had. One day, with a heavy heart, she cooked all 12 remaining eggs—frustrated, tired, and asking God why they had to sacrifice so much when her husband was already serving.

The next day, God responded—not with rebuke, but with a full egg tray. A simple act. A quiet miracle. A faithful reminder that God sees, God hears, and God provides.

Jot’s heart began to change—not just with a tray of eggs, but through many more moments of God’s faithfulness.

Today, more than 20 years later, Jot continues to walk faithfully in that same call. She currently serves as the Discipleship and Training Director of CCBC, actively equipping others to make disciples. She lives out this mission alongside her husband, Pastor Randolph, who now serves as the National Director of Wavemakers. Together, they remain passionate about raising the next generation of disciple-makers.

We’re all called to carry the cost of discipleship. And in the sacrifice, God meets us with His presence and provision.
